Position Summary

The Project Engineer Intern supports construction project teams by assisting with planning, documentation, and coordination activities. This role contributes to tracking project progress, preparing reports, and ensuring tasks align with established schedules and project objectives. The intern may participate in site visits, review technical drawings, and collaborate with team members, contractors, and stakeholders to support project execution. This position provides valuable hands‑on experience with engineering processes, project management tools, and cross‑functional teamwork in a dynamic, real‑world construction environment.

  • Support the preparation of project budgets and estimates-to-complete.
  • Assist in developing, updating, and maintaining project schedules.
  • Establish and maintain project documentation, including reports, logs, and tracking tools.
  • Monitor and track project activities, including shop drawing submittals, RFIs, field changes, change orders, and procurement/delivery schedules.
  • Assist estimators in preparing cost estimates in accordance with bid procedures.
  • Support post‑bid buyout activities, including subcontractor and vendor selection.
  • Analyze subcontractor and vendor proposals; assist in negotiating subcontract agreements, purchase orders, and change orders.
  • Assist in reviewing and approving vendor and subcontractor invoices for accuracy and completeness.
  • Review materials and equipment to ensure compliance with contract documents, specifications, and approved drawings.
  • Support quality control efforts to ensure all work and materials meet project requirements.
  • Coordinate project activities to support schedule adherence and efficient execution.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and Superintendents to support overall project controls and execution.
  • Communicate effectively with field and office teams to resolve issues and provide project updates.
  • Process and distribute Requests for Information (RFIs) and related project documentation.
  • Support compliance tracking for WBE/MBE/DBE requirements, as applicable.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Management, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and construction plans.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Detail‑oriented with strong follow‑through and vendor communication skills.
Preferred Experience
  • Basic familiarity with construction site or field operations.
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu or take‑off software.
  • Exposure to HCSS estimating software or similar construction tools.
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn, adapt, and take initiative in a dynamic environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift or carry up to 30 lbs.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer.
  • Ability to view computer screens and printed materials with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Required use of PPE (hard hat, safety vest, steel‑toe boots) in operational areas.
  • Combination of office‑based work and field responsibilities, with regular travel to job sites.
  • Exposure to active construction environments, including noise, dust, and varying weather conditions.
  • Fast‑paced, collaborative environment requiring coordination across multiple teams and stakeholders.
  • Standard business hours with occasional extended hours based on operational needs.
