- Lead a team of reporters covering the three branches of state power, campaign finance, the public‑sector workforce, and the political culture of New York’s capital city
- Oversee weekday production of the Capitol Confidential newsletter, a subscription product providing an insider take on statehouse news
- Collaborate with editors, reporters, photographers, and audience team members to produce impactful stories across platforms
- Break news online quickly and effectively
- Help produce agenda‑setting enterprise and watchdog journalism
- Manage the team while contributing personal bylines
- Model and encourage responsible use of AI tools to support human‑crafted journalism
- Analyze web and social metrics to inform coverage decisions and content promotion
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience editing, reporting, and writing on government and politics in a competitive environment
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or the real‑world equivalent with a record demonstrating suitable preparation
- Excellent news judgment
- Understanding of media ethics and law
- Understanding of how news stories unfold across platforms
- Ability to make real‑time coverage decisions in a daily news environment
