Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor – Garden City VR District Office, NYSED Office of Special Education and ACCES (OSEA).
Job OverviewThe New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Special Education and ACCES (OSEA) is seeking candidates for a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor position in the Garden City VR District Office. This office assists persons with disabilities to attain employment, educational, and/or independent living goals.
Responsibilities- Manage a caseload, including writing case notes and maintaining supporting documentation.
- Determine eligibility.
- Develop employment goals and Individualized Plans for Employment.
- Purchase goods and services as needed for individuals to reach their employment goals.
- Coordinate the resources of the family, community, and specialists.
- Determine case closure.
- Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor Trainee 1:
Bachelor’s degree or higher AND EITHER- Enrollment in a master's degree program in rehabilitation counseling, OR
- Master’s degree or higher in a related degree field.
- Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor Trainee 2:
Bachelor’s degree or higher AND EITHER- Completion of 50% of the coursework toward a master's degree in rehabilitation counseling, OR
- Master’s degree or higher in a related degree field AND completion of one year as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor Trainee 1, OR
- Master’s degree or higher in a related degree field AND one year of professional work experience in a related field.
- Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor
:- A current Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) credential as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC), OR
- Master’s degree or higher in rehabilitation counseling, OR
- Master’s degree or higher in a related degree field AND completion of the Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor Traineeship, OR
- Master’s degree or higher in a related degree field AND two years of professional work experience in a related field.
Minimum Qualifications
Reassignment:
Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor. Employees of ACCES‑VR currently in a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor position and interested in transferring to this location must apply as outlined in the Application section.
Eligible List Appointment:
Candidates must be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor.
55b/c Appointment:
The position is eligible for 55b/c designation. Candidates with 55b/c eligibility must possess a current 55b/c eligibility letter.
- Starting salary:
- $63,278 (Trainee 1 – SG‑15)
- $70,402 (Trainee 2 – SG‑17)
- $77,761 (Full Performance level SG‑19)
- Maximum salary $89,645 based on annual performance advances and traineeship advances.
- Additional $4,000 Downstate Adjustment.
- 30% in‑state travel; telecommute up to 30% each bi‑weekly pay period.
