The Lead AHA Training Center Instructor provides oversight for the clinical education of staff seeking certification through the Albany Medical Center AHA Training Center. The lead instructor is responsible for the planning, coordination, delivery and evaluation of AHA courses through the Center for Learning and Development at Albany Medical Center. The Lead AHA Training Center Instructor ensures adherence with the standards set out and put forth in the American Heart Association Program Administration Manual (PAM) by all instructors and affiliated training sites.
The lead instructor may also, at the request of the AVP for Professional Practice, participate in other education events specific to resuscitation science and provide consultation to the development of education programs.
- Adhere to AMC Code of Conduct, including honesty, punctuality, confidentiality and high ethical standards.
- Ensure meticulous adherence by all affiliated instructors and training sites with the rules, regulations and standards set forth in the American Heart Association Program Administration Manual (PAM).
- Maintain Paramedic, BLS, ACLS and PALS certification at all times.
- Maintain AHA Training Center documentation and standards.
- Collaborate with AVP Professional Practice and AHA Training Center Coordinator to support the needs of the AHA Training Center.
- Collaborate with all staff in the Albany Medical Center for Learning to support daily operations of the AHA Training Center.
- Ensure adequate number of instructors and availability of classes to support the education and credentialing needs of Albany Medical Center and affiliated practices.
- Plan and communicate annual AHA Class Calendar based on needs of AMC and affiliated practices.
- Monitor and order AHA Training Center inventory.
- Maintain AHA equipment in conjunction with AHA Training Center Coordinator.
- Oversee quarterly meetings with the AHA Instructor community.
- Evaluate and certify instructors based on AHA standards.
- Run instructor certification and continuing education classes.
- Monitor and support instructor group for quality, conduct and certification.
- Maintain durable equipment according to manufacturer’s guidelines to support operational readiness to teach AHA courses.
- Anticipate and inform AVP of Professional Practice of budgetary needs in a timely fashion.
- Assist in cleaning and preparation of rooms and equipment before and after classes to ensure readiness for use.
- Support a system that encourages the identification and analysis of errors and near misses in the context of a safety culture.
- Be aware of and compliant with all hospital and regulatory agency safety goals and objectives as well as limitations of scope of practice.
- Provide direction and act as a mentor in assisting students and orientees to succeed.
- Be accountable for self-development and keep current on clinical, leadership, education and healthcare topics.
- Ensure that all AHA Instructor Updates are communicated to AMC AHA instructors in a timely fashion.
- Associate’s Degree in a health discipline - required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a health discipline - preferred.
- 5 years of current/recent experience as a paramedic - required.
- Teaching experience related to resuscitation science - required.
- Teaching experience at a college level - preferred.
- Ability to be honest, punctual, maintain confidentiality and high ethical standards.
- LP - Licensed Paramedic.
- Current certification/license in NY upon hire - required.
- ACLS Instructor upon hire - required.
- PALS Instructor upon hire - required.
- BCLS Basic Life Support Instructor certification upon hire - required.
- Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
