OverviewThe ESL Instructor provides specialized instruction for state- and federal-funded programs to engage a diverse population of learners, helping refugees and immigrants develop English proficiency.
This is a part‑time position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Plan, organize, and provide instruction in English that meets state and federal standards.
- Provide instruction that is consistent and coordinated with the instructional program so that learners meet and exceed learning targets.
- Create a nurturing and supportive learning environment that encourages learner responsibility and incorporates challenging instructional strategies.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques to meet different aptitudes and interests of the learner.
- Administer academic and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating learners' progress toward academic learning targets and language acquisition.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, preferably in Education or a related discipline (or a minimum of three years TESOL experience).
- Availability to work on a variable schedule, including evenings and weekends.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate and build lasting relationships with program and field office staff.
- Sensitivity to the development stages and well‑being of ELLs.
- Proficiency with MS Word, MS Access, MS Excel, and database programs.
- Ability to facilitate group discussion, analyze situations, and draw conclusions.
- Highly adaptable and flexible with the ability to multitask and prioritize in a demanding work environment.
- Dedication to the human rights of refugees, immigrants, asylum seekers, and displaced people.
- Good sense of humor and a pleasant, diplomatic manner are desired.
- Satisfactory completion of USCRI’s Orientation and Training.
- Satisfactory completion of funder-required trainings on hire and annually.
- Complete additional training as identified by supervisor or Human Resources.
- Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and auditory acuity.
- Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting and standing, and sustained visual and mental demands.
- Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying.
- Quantitative/mathematical ability (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, standard measurements).
