Job Description
The College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity (CEHC) is part of the Emerging Technology and Entrepreneurship Complex (ETEC). CEHC seeks adjunct lecturers for the Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security. Successful candidates will be able to teach courses in one or more of the following subject areas: emergency management, homeland security, research methods, leadership and ethics, project management, critical inquiry and communication, and justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in emergency management and homeland security.
PrimaryResponsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in emergency management and homeland security, including but not limited to emergency management, homeland security, research methods, leadership and ethics, project management, critical inquiry and communication, and justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Reports to Department Chair.
- Supervises no positions.
- Knowledge of emergency management and homeland security concepts in one or more areas such as research methods, leadership and ethics, project management, critical inquiry and communication, or justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Ability to design and deliver effective undergraduate and/or graduate instruction across in‑person, online, and hybrid modalities.
- Ability to incorporate applied field experience or current professional practices into academic coursework.
- Ability to communicate effectively and foster an inclusive learning environment that supports student success within a diverse academic community.
- Demonstrated ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within the campus community.
- Demonstrated ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to the role.
- MA or MS in criminology, criminal justice, political science, public policy, disaster science, sociology, geography, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
- Three or more years of academic teaching or professional training experience.
- Demonstrated readiness to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in varying modalities.
- PhD in criminology, criminal justice, political science, public policy, disaster science, sociology, geography, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
- Experience teaching graduate courses in emergency management, homeland security, and research methods such as preparedness and response, mitigation and recovery, crises and vulnerable populations, governance and stakeholders, risk theory and management, research design, quantitative methods, qualitative methods, and professional analytical skills.
- Demonstrated experience or teaching in multiple modalities (in‑person, online, and/or hybrid).
- One or more years working in the field of emergency management and homeland security.
- Typical office environment.
- In‑person and online courses.
- Collaborative and interdisciplinary academic environment.
