Visiting Assistant Professor (Human Biology) - Anthropology
The Department of Anthropology at the University at Albany, SUNY, within the College of Arts and Sciences, is a dynamic, research‑active unit dedicated to the interdisciplinary study of humanity across time and space. The department emphasizes hands‑on, faculty‑mentored learning through coursework, laboratory work, and field‑based research, preparing students for careers in academia, public service, cultural resource management, health‑related fields, and other professions that require a deep understanding of human diversity and social complexity.
The Department seeks a Visiting Assistant Professor (academic‑year appointment) for the 2026‑27 academic year to teach labor‑intensive courses for the growing Human Biology undergraduate major. The successful candidate will teach the equivalent of three courses per semester, including lab sections of Human Anatomy and Physiology (AANT 316/AANT 318) and upper‑level courses in Biological Anthropology/Human Biology. Preference will be given to candidates with prior teaching experience and research interests that complement existing departmental strengths.
PrimaryResponsibilities
- Teach Human Anatomy and Physiology lab sections (AANT 316/ AANT 318) and upper‑level Biological Anthropology/Human Biology courses.
- Perform university, college, and department service and other reasonable duties as assigned.
- Reports to:
Department Chair. - May supervise employees as assigned.
- Demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within a diverse campus community.
- Demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to the role.
- Ph.D. degree or terminal degree from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization.
- Experience teaching at the college or university level.
- Experience teaching human anatomy and physiology at the undergraduate or graduate level.
- Ph.D. degree or terminal degree in Biological Anthropology, Biology, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Experience teaching undergraduates in Biological Anthropology, Biology, or a related discipline.
- Ability to work in typical office, classroom, and instructional laboratory environments.
Professional Rank and Salary Range: Visiting Assistant Professor (academic‑year appointment).
