Part Time Faculty – Communications

Job Overview

Excelsior University seeks experienced, student-centered instructors to join our part-time communications faculty pool. Applicants should clearly indicate their qualifications to teach both public speaking and interpersonal communications courses. This hybrid (St. Petersburg, FL) and remote online position requires part-time faculty to be assigned to course sections based on their qualifications, interest, performance, and course section availability.

• Implement courses as designed by the University.
• Bring their own knowledge and expertise to bear on the subject matter.
• Engage regularly and substantively with students via email, announcements, and online discussion boards.
• Provide timely, high‑quality feedback on student work.
• Hold regular virtual office hours.
• Keep the department chair apprised of any student or course issues.
• Follow University policies.
• Complete University‑required training and attend required pre‑term meetings.

• A master’s degree or PhD in Communications or a master’s degree in a related field with at least 18 graduate credits in communications.
• Experience teaching communications (including public speaking) in an asynchronous online environment.
• Experience with the Canvas learning management system preferred.
• A student‑centered teaching approach.
• A commitment to supporting the success of all students, including those underserved by traditional higher education.

Compensation is provided at a rate of $1,000 per credit hour per course, with low‑enrollment courses paid at a directed study rate. The salary range reflects the University’s good faith estimate at the time of posting.
