Job DescriptionThe Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering within the College of Nanotechnology, Science, and Engineering at the University at Albany, SUNY, is seeking applicants for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering for the academic year, with the possibility of renewal for AY27-28. The successful candidate is expected to be able to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the computing area.
The applicant will be responsible for teaching 2-6 courses per year, with those working to develop a research program teaching fewer courses and those with a teaching-only focus teaching more. Specific teaching assignments will be determined by the candidate's expertise and the needs of the Department.
Faculty are expected to provide service to the College and to their home departments and programs by participating in governance as well as providing professional service to the community and their disciplines. The successful applicant will be expected to actively mentor undergraduate and graduate students, including underserved and historically underrepresented students, and participate in pipeline programs to help build a diverse and representative student population.
An applicant seeking to develop a research program must also participate in research tied to their interests and expertise. Areas of particular interest include, but are not limited to, computer hardware, architecture, and programming.
- Teach classes in electrical and computer engineering.
- If working to develop a research program, perform research which may include submitting proposals and supervising graduate students.

Graduate and undergraduate students working as teaching assistants, lab supervisors, and graders
- Demonstrated teaching experience or strong potential for effectively teaching computer-focused ECE courses and an ability to communicate effectively about ECE concepts at the undergraduate and graduate level
- Commitment to student success, diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM education
- If research focused, a demonstrated ability to define and carry out research in the candidate’s area of specialization within electrical and computer engineering
- Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community
- Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role
- PhD in Electrical, Computer, or Electrical and Computer Engineering or a closely related field from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization by August 2026
- Demonstrated teaching experience or demonstrated potential for effective teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels
- If research focused, a demonstrated potential for research in their field, including potential for obtaining external funding
- Experience as an instructor for computer-related courses in electrical and computer engineering, particularly those in the computer hardware, architecture, and programming areas
- If research focused, research publications in top tier journals and conferences
- If research focused, experience in applying for and/or obtaining research funding
- Faculty will be provided with personal office space
- If research focused, faculty will be provided with lab space
- Teaching will be scheduled across the different campus teaching facilities
- Class schedules may include courses offered after 5 pm on weekdays
- Online courses may be scheduled at the discretion of the department chair
- This position will require occasional evening and weekend work to support events and community activities
