Education Program Assistant 1
The New York State Education Department's (NYSED) Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates to fill an Education Program Assistant 1 position in the Charter School Office (CSO). This Office fosters high-quality public education options for all students, families, and communities. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Coordinate data transmission to stakeholders outside of the CSO;
- Manage CSO webinars and webpage content;
- Redact information from documents such as those that will be posted on the CSO website;
- Coordinate communications to external stakeholders;
- Assist CSO staff in data collection projects and grant-management activities;
- Collect and enter data in databases, spreadsheets and text documents as developed and assigned;
- Ensure that a high level of support and customer service is provided to all stakeholders in a timely manner through management of the Charter Schools mailbox and phone communications;
- Update CSO trackers and templates;
- Assist with the management of the consultant process;
- Assist with notification letter processes, and preparation of Board of Regents items; and
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination.
Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
NON-COMPETITIVE
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, or 55 b/c, candidates must meet the open-competitive minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are:
- Education Program Assistant 1:
Four years of experience performing a variety of activities in support of developing, implementing, regulating, and maintaining programs by developing historical or statistical data and evaluating applications and transcripts. An associate degree may substitute for two years of experience; a bachelor's degree may substitute for four years of experience; a master's degree may substitute for five years of experience; and a doctorate may substitute for six years of experience. - Education Trainee 1:
Two years of experience performing a variety of activities in support of developing, implementing, regulating, and maintaining programs by developing historical or statistical data and evaluating applications and transcripts. An associate degree may substitute for two years of experience; a bachelor's degree may substitute for four years of experience; a master's degree may substitute for five years of experience; and a doctorate may substitute for six years of experience. - Education Trainee 2:
Three years of experience performing a variety of activities in support of developing, implementing, regulating, and maintaining programs by developing historical or statistical data and evaluating applications and transcripts. An associate degree may substitute for two years of experience; a bachelor's degree may substitute for four years of experience; a master's degree may substitute for five years of experience; and a doctorate may substitute for six years of experience.

Eligible List Appointment:
Candidates who are reachable on the New York State Education Department's Public Administration Trainee Transition (PATT) eligible list or the Professional Career Opportunities (PCO) eligible list may be considered for appointment. If you are on the Civil Service eligible list for this title, you may receive a canvass letter. You must complete and return it as instructed on the letter.
