Duties Description The New York State Education Department's (NYSED) Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for an Associate in Instructional Services (Earth Science 7-12) position in the Office of State Assessment. This office is responsible for the development and statewide administration of all State examinations for elementary, intermediate, and high school students. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Plan and conduct activities related to the development of the Regents Examinations in Earth and Space Sciences and other science exams as assigned, including convening and facilitating review committees, participating in committee work and scoring sessions to provide content expertise in development of State exams while reviewing and revising test questions, and working with stakeholder groups;
* Lead test development activities in science, including training, assigning, and reviewing the work of teacher-consultants to perform a wide range of test development tasks;
* Prepare and review examinations, rating guides and supplementary test materials and monitoring their progress through the various phases of development, including translations and printing;
* Strong understanding of the New York State P12 Science Learning Standards (NYSP
12SL
S), with the ability to develop, refine and support high-quality assessment items and guidance documents;
* Collaborate with other internal offices to support the implementation of the New York State P12 Science Learning Standards (NYSP
12SL
S) and develop supplementary materials for new assessments aligned to these standards; and
* Prepare written materials for dissemination, including news releases, bulletins, newsletters and material for the Education Department web site and represent the Department at meetings and projects related to the NYS assessments.
Minimum Qualifications NY HELPS
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination.
Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
NON-COMPETITIVE
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS candidates must meet the open-competitive minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are:
* Master's degree AND New York State permanent or professional certification in Earth Science 7-12 AND four years of full-time classroom teaching experience in Earth Science 7-12 for grade levels 7-12.
PROMOTION:
Current State employees must have one year of permanent service as an Assistant in Instructional Services (Earth Science 7-12).
