Overview

Together for Youth Secure Detention is hiring a full-time Science Teacher to prepare lesson plans and educate students at all levels. Duties include assigning homework, grading tests, and documenting progress. Teachers must instruct in a variety of subjects and engage students with lesson plans.

Job Responsibilities
  • Facilitate lesson plan instructions to students, including 1:1 and small group settings, and help facilitate social and emotional learning components.
  • Develop and issue educational content including notes, tests, and assignments.
  • Supervise classes to ensure all students are learning in a safe and productive environment.
  • Organize supplies and resources for lectures and presentations.
  • Deliver personalized instruction to each student by encouraging interactive learning.
  • Plan and implement educational activities and events.
  • Present lessons in a comprehensive manner using visual/audio means to facilitate learning.
  • Create and distribute educational content.
  • Ensure classroom is clean and orderly.
  • Allocate and grade homework, assignments, and tests.
  • Observe, implement, monitor and complete specific reports regarding student performance and behaviors in the classroom.
  • Provide pre-crisis intervention and conflict resolution, using Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) principles and approved behavior modification techniques/strategies.
  • Comply with all federal, state and local laws and regulations, including those of NYS Office of Children & Family Services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Schedule & Compensation

Schedule:

Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM (year-round)
Compensation: $75,000 to $90,000 per year, depending on experience, education, and skills.

Job Requirements
  • Minimum of 1 year of practical teaching experience; middle school and high school teaching experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree and a valid NYS teaching certificate required, or an equivalent certificate obtained through an NYS- approved pathway that leads to a master’s degree in education and permanent certification.
  • Teaching experience in a high-school alternative school setting highly preferred.
  • Proficient knowledge and skills with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
  • Valid driver’s license; ability to travel if needed.
