The Office of Career Development is housed within the University at Albany's Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy, a nationally recognized college dedicated to advancing education, research, and public service in the fields of public administration, public policy, criminal justice, and international affairs. The Office of Career Development advances Rockefeller College's mission by providing comprehensive career counseling, internship coordination, employer engagement, and professional development services to undergraduate and graduate students as well as alumni.

The office assists students in identifying career pathways, securing internships and employment opportunities, developing professional application materials, preparing for interviews, and building professional networks. Through career advising, internship and job placement support, employer outreach, networking events, career programming, and guidance on graduate school and fellowship opportunities, the office serves as a critical bridge between academic study and professional practice. By fostering partnerships with government agencies, nonprofit organizations, private-sector employers, and alumni, the Office of Career Development enhances experiential learning, career readiness, student success, and post-graduation outcomes, supporting both the mission of Rockefeller College and the University at Albany's commitment to preparing students for meaningful careers and public impact.

The Coordinator of Internships and Career Programming serves as the primary point of contact for internships, career programming, and experiential learning opportunities within the College. The coordinator supports undergraduate and graduate students in the School of Criminal Justice and the Departments of Political Science and Public Administration and Policy through internship placement, career advising, professional development programming, and administration of experiential learning initiatives, including the Semester in Washington Program and required internship courses.

The coordinator develops and maintains relationships with employers, alumni, faculty, and external partners; assists students in preparing for internships, employment, and graduate study; and oversees internship-related courses, programming, assessment, and data collection.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Internship and Experiential Learning Administration:
    • Coordinate and manage internship and experiential learning programs for Criminal Justice, Political Science, and Public Administration and Policy students, including placement processes, course administration, employer relations, data reporting, and compliance with academic and program requirements.
  • Career Development and Student Advising:
    • Provide career and educational advising to students by supporting internship and job searches, career readiness skill development, graduate and professional school planning, and connections with employers and professional opportunities.
  • Semester in Washington Program Coordination:
    • Lead the administration, recruitment, student support, internship preparation, assessment, and stakeholder coordination for the Semester in Washington Program to ensure a high-quality experiential learning experience.
  • Career Programming and Outreach:
    • Develop, coordinate, and deliver career-focused programs, events, and outreach initiatives that promote student career readiness, employer and alumni engagement, experiential learning, and participation in college and university recruitment activities.
