The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) at the University at Albany serves all of the college's academic units. The program isjointly sponsored by New York State, the Office of Special Programs, and the University  objective of EOP is tosee that each student admitted is provided with all the service sand assistance necessary for success in the degree program in whichhe or she is enrolled.

The ultimate goal of the program is to makehigher education possible for students who lack the normalcredentials for college admissions, but who have the potential and motivation for academic success.

The EOP lecturer will be administratively responsible to the EOPdirector and will work closely with other EOP instructors,counselors, and program staffers. The EOP lecturer will be assigned to teach in the fall and spring semesters. This person must be ableto work effectively with college students who are economically andeducationally disadvantaged individuals.

• Teaching
  • Teach 2 sections each semester of EOP courses, requiring 4.5hours of instruction and 4 hours of office hours per week.
  • Assume responsibility for implementing the instructional goalsof the EOP high-intensity model.
  • Ensure that EOP students receive the necessary competencies ina particular academic area.
  • Conduct one-on-one and group conferences for study skillspurposes.
• Student Success
  • Create and maintain channels of referral for academicallyunderperforming students.
  • Advocate for non-traditional/EOP college students.
• Administration
  • Assume responsibility for maintaining accurate and complete records of student performance.
  • Provide student progress recommendations to the EOPdirector.
  • Contribute to curriculum revisions and syllabusconstruction.
  • Participate in professional activities.
  • Participate in scheduled staff meetings.

• Strong commitment to working with economically/educationally disadvantaged students.
• Sensitivity to motivate low income/first college generation students.
• Be available for extended office hours to offer one-on-one tutoring.
• Ability to effectively communicate with other EOP instructors,counselors, and students.
• Ability to direct students to other areas for tutorialsupport.
• Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community.
• Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity,equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to theirrole.

• Master of Arts in English or terminal degree in a closely related discipline from a college or university accredited by theU.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization is required. A doctorate is preferred.
• 2 to 5 years of experience teaching college students
• Experience using technology in the classroom
• Experience assessing student needs (pre- andpost-assessment)

• Prior experience working with students in EOP or a similarprogram

• Typical office and classroom environment
• Position requires effective written and interpersonal communication skills
