Duties description duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
* assist in performing civil engineering duties including collecting and analyze data on existing infrastructure, topography, and environmental conditions. Review water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer and other infrastructure systems.
* prepare site civil drawings and details, specifications, estimates, and/or studies for design projects under the direction of licensed staff.
* prepare and coordinate design drawings and related specifications, construction costs estimates, etc., with the other disciplines.
* assist in scheduling assigned projects according to workload, priorities, and design schedules.
* assist in the review of reports, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates prepared by design consultants.
* assist with the supervision of consultant design work.
* develop and maintain project documentation, including records of meetings, correspondence, and progress
* collaborate with senior designers, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure project goals are met.
* assist in review of submittals, respond to contractor requests for information, create and/or review information bulletins, and provide similar construction administration and observation during the project's construction.
* assist with supervision of junior staff.
* additional duties as assigned.
Operational needs:
* travel may be required (approximately 20%).
* possession and maintenance of a valid driver's license issued by the nys department of motor vehicle is required
Note:
* there is no examination required for appointment to a ny helps position. Candidates hired via ny helps will be appointed on a permanent non-competitive basis and will begin a probationary period.
At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected that ny helps employees will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to take an exam. Employees will then be afforded with all the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of new york state. While serving permanently in a ny helps title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
Salary adjustments for positions at the assistant level (not trainee) in albany
Geographic pay differential added to hiring salary of $7,000.
The office of the general services (ogs) supports telecommuting where it is reasonable to do so based upon the agency's mission and operational needs. Generally, employees new to ogs design and construction (d&c) will be restricted from telecommuting for at least 8 calendar weeks. After the initial 8 calendar week restriction, if an employee's duties and work performance are aligned with telecommuting they may be allowed to do so.
Upon approval to telecommute, ogs d&c employees may telecommute up to 4 days per pay period.
This position is graded and offers a salary range from the hiring rate to the job rate for its designated grade. All hires begin at "start rate" unless prior state experience affords eligibility for hiring step increase as determined by osc.
