Senior Dams Engineer​/Project Manager

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Dams Engineer / Project Manager, with a strategic focus on Upstate New York. This position aligns with GEI’s seller-doer model.

The ideal candidate will bring proven success in securing, managing, and delivering complex water infrastructure projects and be excited by the opportunity to manage and deliver projects and help expand GEI’s market share in Upstate NY and neighboring states.

• Collaborate with existing practitioners on the overall strategy and vision to reinforce and expand the Upstate NY Dams Practice
• Plan, coordinate, direct, and supervise design teams in the inspection, evaluation, and design of water infrastructure projects such as dams, levees, spillways, outlet works, hydroelectric facilities, and other appurtenant structures
• Provide technical input and oversight in one or more of the following technical disciplines: civil, structural, geotechnical, water resources, hydrology and hydraulics, mechanical
• Resolve complex issues to benefit our clients
• Manage local, regional, and national projects
• Identify, develop, pursue, and win opportunities with new and existing clients within New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, the East region, and nationwide
• Manage project teams often representing multiple services and subconsultants.

• 15+ years’ experience in design, project management, and construction of dams, levees, flood management systems, and/or hydropower projects
• Registered professional civil engineer in New York
• Understanding of regulatory and permitting environment in New York and the surrounding states, including work under the jurisdiction of the NYSDEC, PADEP, VTANR, and other agencies (USACE, FERC, etc.)
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Valid driver’s license

• Demonstrated experience pursuing and winning opportunities for water clients in NY
• Strong reputation in the NY market for dams, levees, flood control structures and/or hydropower services
• Demonstrated experience in water resource engineering with strong analysis and design experience working on large civil works projects such as dams, levees, flood walls, canals, penstocks, and related structures.
• Able to supervise and direct junior staff.

Occasional (0‑35% of day), Frequent (33‑66% of day), 67‑100% of day. Tasks include 6‑8 hours of standing and walking, 0‑1 hour climbing, lifting from floor to waist, carrying objects, push/pull, twisting, reaching forward and overhead, keyboard use/repetitive motion as necessary. Sensory Requirements:
Near and Far Vision (≤20/40) and hearing; exposure to dust, chemical, radiation, extreme temperatures, uneven surfaces, and other work hours. Accurate 20/40 vision required; 20/20 is preferred. A Reasonably Anticipated for depth perception, hearing, chemical, radiation, uneven surfaces.
