Duties Description
- Conduct field surveys of state property lines.
- Review hydrographic, topographic and engineering surveys.
- Inspect the work of private surveyors retained by the state or an abutting private owner to survey state property lines of lands to be acquired or disposed.
- Create maps, search titles, and search old records for survey and title information.
- Assist in the maintenance of records, review maps, and prepare consultant contracts.
- Record research; assist in field inspections and reviews, and perform property boundary surveys with applicable survey principles and practices for the determination of the state’s title boundaries and subdivision of state lands.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Two years of experience
** in land surveying that includes conducting measurements of space, water, land, and structures to determine boundaries, areas, elevations, alignments, volumes, and locations and performing evaluation and analysis of field data and researching public and private land records.
- Substitutions:
An associate degree or higher in a related field may substitute for two years of specialized experience.
Applicants may be appointed to this position if currently reachable on the appropriate eligible list for this title OR are a current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service as a Land Surveyor Technician 1 and interested in reassignment.
Additional Comments- There is no examination required for appointment to a NY HELPS position. Candidates hired via NY HELPS will be appointed on a permanent non-competitive basis and will begin a probationary period.
At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected that NY HELPS employees will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to take an exam. Employees will then be afforded with all the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
