Duties Description The student assistants will be provided with valuable educational and career exploration opportunities within the transportation engineering and surveying fields related to highway design, structural design, survey, and other engineering support areas. Each student assistant will be mentored by experienced Professional Engineers, Architects, and Surveyors.

Minimum Qualifications Non-competitive:
Candidates must be currently enrolled as part-time or full-time high school, undergraduate, or graduate college students at an education institution accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the United States (U.S.) Department of Education/Secretary of Education.

Preferred Qualifications:

Must have completed at least 12 credit hours of college study and be currently enrolled in one of the following accredited degree programs:
Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Architectural Engineering Technology;
Civil Engineering;
Civil Engineering Technology;
Construction Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology;
Construction Engineering Management, Construction Engineering Management Technology;
Geotechnical Engineering;
Hydraulics Engineering;
Landscape Architecture, Materials Engineering;
Materials Science and Engineering;
Metallurgical and Materials Engineering;
Structural Engineering;
Surveying and Geomatics, Surveying and Geomatics Engineering, Surveying and Geomatics Engineering Technology;
Transportation Engineering or Transportation Planning and Engineering, or Engineering Science with a recognized concentration in any of the above listed engineering degrees.

Be 18 years of age or older.

Be actively enrolled in a New York State college, university, or graduate program, or be a resident of New York State, attending a college, university or graduate program outside of New York State.

Have completed a minimum of one (1) year as a student at a degree-granting two or four-year college or university (completion of one year's worth of academic credits over a longer period may qualify part-time students for participation in the program), or be a currently enrolled graduate student or accepted in a graduate degree program.

Have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0, or the letter grade equivalent.

A student intern should have the following skills:

Analytical and evaluative skills.

Interpersonal and communication skills.

Organizational skills, efficiency, and flexibility.

Computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft products (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint), email software, internet searching, and other programs.
