Harrison & Burrowes Bridge Constructors is seeking an experienced Estimator to join our team and help deliver complex bridge, heavy civil, and water infrastructure projects throughout New York and the Northeast.
The Estimator plays a critical role in the success of our organization by developing accurate, competitive, and comprehensive project estimates. This position works closely with project managers, operations staff, subcontractors, suppliers, and executive leadership to identify project risks, evaluate construction strategies, and prepare winning proposals.
Key Responsibilities- Review plans, specifications, and contract documents to determine project scope, risks, and opportunities.
- Develop detailed quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and bid proposals for bridge, heavy civil, and water infrastructure projects.
- Solicit, evaluate, and analyze subcontractor and supplier quotations.
- Develop labor, equipment, material, and production estimates based on project requirements.
- Evaluate alternative construction methods and value engineering opportunities.
- Identify project risks and develop contingency plans to improve estimate accuracy.
- Prepare and coordinate D/M/WBE and SDVOB participation plans and good‑faith efforts.
- Attend pre‑bid meetings, site visits, and project walkthroughs as required.
- Present estimates and participate in bid review meetings with executive leadership.
- Collaborate with project managers and operations personnel during project handoff and startup.
- Assist with post‑bid documentation and contract award requirements.
- Review completed project performance and historical cost data to improve future estimates and bidding strategies.
- Maintain accurate estimating records, databases, and cost histories.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in heavy civil, bridge, highway, dam, or water infrastructure construction estimating and/or project management.
- Proven experience estimating projects ranging from $1 million to $15 million in value.
- Strong understanding of heavy civil construction means and methods, production rates, crew compositions, and equipment requirements.
- Experience with alternative delivery methods, including Design‑Build projects, is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Bluebeam or Adobe Acrobat, and InEight Estimate or similar estimating software.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
This is an in‑person position requiring regular attendance at our Glenmont, NY office, with occasional travel to project sites and pre‑bid meetings. Candidates must reside in New York or be willing to relocate within commuting distance of our office.
Compensation & Benefits- Competitive salary ranging from $85,000 – $125,000
