Duties Description
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
* Performing quality assessments of work by other analysts/technical staff.
* Training processors to analyze and review traffic data submitted by state contractors.
* Performing and reviewing annual statistics calculations on Traffic Count data in support of federal reporting requirements.
* Communicating data issues to contractors and counting partners.
* Managing portions of Short Count Traffic Data Collection Program, such as scheduling, coordination with partner agencies, or management of QA/QC processes.
* Fulfilling internal and external requests for short count traffic data/traffic data analysis.
* Fixing errors or mistakes that inhibit the short count data processing.
* Using GIS software to help with traffic station management.
* Reviewing processing staff's traffic counts for accuracy and quality control.
* Reviewing and updating short count QA/QC procedures.
* Assisting with writing, evaluating, or scoring written contract proposals.
* Processing short count traffic data.
* Supervising professional, clerical, technical and contract staff in support of the above-listed duties.
* Working on special projects including roadway/station management, traffic data calculation requests, reviewing traffic footage, Turning Movement Counts, and special short count requests.
* Occasionally traveling statewide, on overnight trips, to collect and analyze field data.
* Using file explorer, Microsoft Excel, Access, and FTP software.
* Performing other duties as required in support of the Highway Data Services Bureau.
Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department's response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
* To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, or 55 b/c, candidates must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are:
Transportation Analyst Trainee 1:
Four years of experience directly related to highways or transportation in either planning, engineering management, systems analysis or quantitative analysis of transportation or highway systems, and must have included direct responsibility for the preparation of written materials, such as narrative reports, letters of memoranda documenting the accomplishments, or supervision of such activity.
Transportation Analyst Trainee 2:
Five years of experience directly related to highways or transportation in either planning, engineering management, systems analysis or quantitative analysis of transportation or highway systems, and must have included direct responsibility for the preparation of written materials, such as narrative reports, letters of memoranda documenting the accomplishments, or supervision of such activity.
Transportation Analyst 1:
Six years of experience directly related to highways or transportation in either planning, engineering management, systems analysis or quantitative analysis of transportation or highway systems, and must have included direct responsibility for the preparation of written materials, such as narrative reports, letters of memoranda documenting the accomplishments, or supervision of such activity.
Substitutions:
An associate degree may substitute for two years of experience; a bachelor's degree may substitute for four years of experience; a master's degree may substitute for five years of experience; and a doctorate may substitute for six years of experience.
