Structural Engineering Assistant
Duties include but may not be limited to:
- Assist in performing structural engineering duties related to the preparation of structural steel or reinforced concrete designs for new construction of State facilities and rehabilitation/repair of State facilities.
- Prepare structural drawings and details, specifications, estimates, and/or studies for design projects under the direction of licensed staff.
- Coordinate design drawings and related specifications, construction cost estimates, etc., with the other disciplines.
- Assist in scheduling assigned projects according to workload, priorities, and design schedules.
- Assist in the review of reports, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates prepared by design consultants.
- Assist with the supervision of consultant design work.
- Develop and maintain project documentation, including records of meetings, correspondence, and progress.
- Collaborate with senior designers, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure project goals are met.
- Assist in review of submittals, respond to contractor Requests for Information, create and/or review Information Bulletins, and provide similar construction administration and observation during the project's construction.
- Assist with supervision of junior staff.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Operational Needs:
- Travel may be required (approximately 20%).
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver's License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicle is required.
Salary Adjustments for Positions at the Assistant level (not trainee) in Albany:
Geographic pay differential added to hiring salary $7,000.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) AND a qualifying bachelor's degree or higher as listed below; OR proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) AND one year of full-time qualifying engineering experience as listed below.
- Qualifying degrees:
Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Materials Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Engineering Science with a recognized concentration in any of the above listed engineering degrees. - Qualifying experience:
One year of full-time engineering experience in the analysis and design of steel framing, concrete framing, concrete foundations and seismic design.
