Regulatory Compliance Specialist, Environmental Compliance
Location: City of Albany
ERM is hiring Environmental Permitting Advisors to support key client operations in Albany, Syracuse, or Buffalo, NY. The role holders will manage environmental licensing and permitting activities for electric and gas projects to ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal environmental requirements. This full‑time (40 hours per week) limited‑term position is for 1 year, extendable.
Key Responsibilities- Review electric, gas and facility capital improvement projects and facility modifications to evaluate potential environmental impacts and the need for regulatory permits and/or authorizations.
- Oversee clients’ field operations, including the management and documentation of site visits to monitor compliance with local, state, federal and company requirements.
- Maintain a high level of knowledge regarding current and proposed federal, state, and local regulations and client Environmental Procedures to ensure compliance.
- Train and motivate engineering and corporate personnel to comply with applicable environmental regulations and client Procedures, providing technical guidance, support and coaching.
- Successfully manage permitting within project schedules.
- Review and manage environmental aspects of projects during design and construction.
- Effectively communicate with peers and regulators.
- Work independently, manage priorities, and organize workloads with moderate guidance.
- Build strong working relationships with Operations, Engineering, Project Management, Construction, Legal, Real Estate, Safety, and other personnel to share best practices and communicate business decisions.
- Manage high work volumes and apply sound problem‑solving skills to obtain, research and analyze data; draw inferences; and make recommendations to client personnel and service providers.
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental/civil engineering, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience, demonstrating proficiency in Article VII and basic understanding of Article VIII.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant industry practice, standards and legislation.
- Extensive knowledge of environmental licensing and permitting regulatory requirements.
- Project management experience.
- Familiarity with GIS.
Annual base pay ranges from $103,967 to $132,573 (approximately $49.98 to $63.73 per hour). This is a limited‑term, non‑exempt role. Pay is determined by education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements and business needs. This position may be eligible for bonus pay.
