Environmental Program Specialist 1 / Trainee 1 and 2 (NY HELPS)

Salary Range: $53,764 – $85,138 annually
Duties DescriptionThe Environmental Program Specialist 1 (EPS1) reports to the Mapping Technologist 2 within the GIS Section of OPRHP’s Division of Environmental Stewardship and Planning’s GIS and Data Bureau. The EPS1 is responsible for development and maintenance of critical GIS datasets, creation of cartographic outputs in support of Agency programs and bureaus, development of field data collection forms and dashboards to standardise field data collection and automate review and monitoring of collected data, and providing training and technical support to Agency staff.
- Database development and maintenance, GPS data collection and processing resulting GIS data into the state park database, cartographic production, and GIS analysis.
- Maintenance of Agency snowmobile trails database.
- Maintain high‑accuracy base maps and cartographic production of facility maps—including production, update, and edit of trail maps and Land Water Conservation Fund maps.
- Development, support, technical assistance, training and usage of ArcGIS Online applications and inventory forms in Survey
123 and Field Maps, utilising ESRI’s suite of tools such as Survey
123 Connect, Field Maps, Experience Builder, Dashboards and Instant apps to facilitate development of field data collection applications and interactive mapping applications for review, approval and long‑term monitoring of Agency programmes and initiatives. - Develop digital field forms for data collection for a variety of programme areas, develop new field mapping applications to replace agency use of 3rd‑party work‑arounds to collect spatial data, and develop new field mapping applications requested by DESP and other agency bureaus such as health and safety, marine, operations and capital.
- Spatial analysis and cartographic production of supporting documentation for comprehensive plans and other planning and stewardship projects.
