Role descriptionWe are searching for a Staff Water Engineer to support and grow our Water team in Clifton Park, NY. This candidate will use their expertise and technical knowledge to deliver design work for water/wastewater clients in New York and across North America.
Qualifications & ExperienceAs a Staff Water Engineer you will evaluate, plan, design and support management of projects for water / wastewater treatment and conveyance (pipelines, treatment, and pumping facilities). Part of your responsibility will be to exercise judgment on details of work and make preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives. You will need to complete technical reports with guidance from more senior team members.
There will be occasional fieldwork activities such as site visits, construction inspection, sampling, water quality analyses, asset inventory, flow monitoring set‑up and monitoring, technology evaluations, and plant operations information, process troubleshooting and optimization. This will require support of professional engineering services during construction: construction observation, review of submittals and shop drawings, responses to request for information (RFIs) and permit closeouts.
With guidance from senior level engineers you will also be responsible for managing tasks as a project resource, completing allocated activities to meet budget, timeframe and quality objectives and meeting or exceeding client expectations. When needed, you will be expected to carry out investigations and analyses to support the development of technical solutions and prepare documentation and reports ensuring accuracy and compliance with Arcadis requirements and relevant national standards and codes of practice.
At Arcadis you will be a part of working in an interdisciplinary team to liaise with project managers/team leaders and clients to ensure effective communication on project matters. Your knowledge will be used to contribute to the resolution of technical issues on projects and provide technical guidance to other team members as well as collaborate with other design disciplines to ensure the integrity of the overall design or solution.
Skills and Abilities- Detail oriented with knowledge of relevant national standards and codes of practice
- Ability to provide technical guidance
- Advanced research, data gathering, technical writing and analysis skills
- Developing skills including technical, project management, relationship management, sector expertise and commercial awareness
- Work independently
- Excellent interpersonal, problem solving, time management and communication skills
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in an appropriate area of engineering
- Valid driver's license with the ability to commute to project sites
- 4 years’ of experience in engineering AND EIT Certification
- New York PE License

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $110,000.
Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
