Minimum Qualifications:

Public Health Specialist Trainee 1 (Radiological Health), (NS
- Grade 14): A qualifying bachelor's degree*

Public Health Specialist Trainee 2 (Radiological Health), (NS
- Grade 16): A qualifying bachelor's degree
* AND one year of experience applying specialized knowledge in radiation protection.

Public Health Specialist 1 (Radiological Health), Grade 18: A qualifying bachelor's degree
* AND two years of experience applying specialized knowledge in radiation protection.

A master's degree in a related field can substitute for one year of experience; and a doctorate in a related field can substitute for two years of experience.

Reassignment or Transfer:
Current New York State Department of Health employee with permanent or contingent permanent status as a Public Health Specialist 1 (Radiological Health), Grade 18, or Public Health Specialist Trainee (Radiological Health); OR current New York State employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent permanent, competitive service in a title eligible to transfer, via 70.1 or 70.4 to a Public Health Specialist 1 (Radiological Health), Grade 18, or Public Health Specialist Trainee (Radiological Health), NS

Preferred Qualifications:

The preferred candidate will be detail-oriented, technologically proficient, and be competent in mathematics. They will also have strong written, and verbal communication skills; excellent organizational skills; be able to work independently on tasks; and demonstrate strong critical thinking skills. The preferred candidate will possess a bachelor's or higher degree in a physical or natural science and will have at least one-year full-time experience in radiation protection.

Additional Comments

Travel throughout several counties to areas not served by public transportation is required (80%).
