Duties Description This position will work within the Office of Design's Design Quality Assurance Bureau and may be assigned to the Project Development and Policy Section or the Specification and Standards Section.

The duties related to this position may generally include, but are not limited to, the following:

The duties within the Project Development and Policy Section would primarily involve assisting a Professional Engineer by providing technical and procedural guidance for projects requiring approval from the Deputy Chief Engineer of Design (DCED) and/or the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). These projects are typically among the Department's more complex transportation investments.

The candidate selected for this position will serve as a key resource during project development and design approval. Responsibilities generally include assisting a Professional Engineer with:

* Performing technical and compliance reviews of design approval documents and other project deliverables

* Coordinating with Regional Offices, Main Office functional groups, FHWA, and other agencies to facilitate project approvals and resolve technical or policy issues

* Providing guidance on project development procedures, design policies, and approval requirements

* Generating project specific engineering content to support Regional design efforts.

Additional responsibilities may include assisting a Professional Engineer with updates to the NYSDOT Project Development Manual and portions of the Highway Design Manual, developing training materials on project development and design approval processes, supporting quality assurance initiatives, and assisting with Department priority projects.

The duties within the Specification and Standards Section would primarily involve assisting a Professional Engineer by providing technical and procedural guidance for policy revisions within Engineering Division, development of contract plans and specifications, and improvement of NYSDOT Standard Specifications and Standard Sheets.

The candidate selected for this position will serve as a key resource to develop or revise NYSDOT standards and provide technical guidance during the development of contract plans and specifications. Responsibilities generally include assisting a Professional Engineer with:

* Performing administration of the Engineering Division's Engineering Information Issuance System (EIIS), including coordination with NYSDOT Program Areas to vet, finalize, and issue policy updates

* Researching issues and concerns, relating to specifications and standard sheets, identified by NYSDOT Regions, NYSDOT Program Areas, or industry, and develop or propose solutions
