Job Description
The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system's 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.
The Bureau of Water Supply seeks to hire a Stationary Engineer (Electric) within the Water Supply Water Resource Recovery Operations Division, Drinking Water Operations Directorate, for a position at the Water Resource Recovery Facility, located in Tannersville, New York. The Stationary Engineer (Electric) will work in the Water Resource Recovery Operations Division, which is responsible for the operation and maintenance of Seven Water Resource Recovery facilities and the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) team.
The Stationary Engineer (Electric) will be responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of electro-mechanical and Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) equipment located in facilities and buildings including upstate Water Resource Recovery facilities both East and West of Hudson. They will operate, inspect, maintain and repair pumps, valves, generators, boilers, furnaces, air-conditioners, heat pumps and ventilation equipment and electro-mechanical equipment located in a modern treatment plant or pumping station.
The Stationary Engineer (Electric) will also respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis.

Some of the physical activities performed by Stationary Engineers (Electric) and environmental conditions experienced are: while working near high voltages (600 volts or more), lift and carry objects weighing approximately fifty pounds; use power driven and regular hand tools; work with hands at arm's length overhead while standing on ladders; may stand for an extended period of time; work in confined areas and in restricted spaces on surfaces such as metal gratings.
The SEE may be required to work in temperatures ranging from 0 degree Fahrenheit to 105 degree Fahrenheit in varying atmospheric conditions such as high and low humidity; work in the presence of toxic and/or corrosive chemicals and moving parts of machinery and equipment. The SEE will operate forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks or other light equipment in a safe manner to move and stack materials.
Special
Working Conditions:
Stationary Engineers (Electric) may be required to work shifts including nights, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. Employees will be paid salary differentials for such work.
Preferred
Skills:
- Five years full time satisfactory experience in facilities using high-tension electrical equipment (600 Volts or more)
- Experience in electrical troubleshooting and repair, including the ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, ladder logic and wiring diagrams.
- Experience in the maintenance and repair of pumps, motors, generators, air compressors, boilers, furnaces including HVAC equipment and controls.
- Possession of A/C refrigerant certifications, (EPA 608 and 410A) or the ability to obtain them within one year of appointment to the title.
- Experience with programmable logic controllers (PLC's).
- Experience with a Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Excel.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage priorities.
- Ability to work with a team.
- Ability to research Operation and Maintenance (O&M) manuals to identify repair parts and supplies.
- Ability to contact vendors and obtain quotes for repairs and replacement parts.
