Job DescriptionAs a Field Service Engineer II
- Process Instrumentation & Control Systems here at Honeywell, you will provide advanced technical support, commissioning, troubleshooting, maintenance, and optimization services for industrial instrumentation, automation, and control systems at customer sites. Your expertise with process instrumentation, PLCs, DCS platforms, control networks, and industrial automation technologies will directly impact plant reliability, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
You will report directly to our Field Service Manager and work out of our Houston, TX location on a hybrid work schedule. In this role, you will support customers across a variety of industrial environments by performing system commissioning, instrument calibration, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and lifecycle support for critical process control systems.
ResponsibilitiesKEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform installation, commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, calibration, repair, and preventive maintenance of process instrumentation and control systems, including pressure, temperature, flow, level, analytical, and final control elements.
- Diagnose and resolve complex issues involving field instrumentation, PLCs, DCS systems, HMI applications, control valves, transmitters, analyzers, and industrial communications networks.
- Configure, test, and validate instrumentation and control devices to ensure compliance with customer requirements, engineering specifications, and industry standards.
- Perform loop checks, point-to-point verification, instrument calibration, functional testing, and startup activities during project execution and maintenance events.
- Troubleshoot and support PLC-, DCS-, and SCADA-based control systems, including hardware, software, and communications-related issues.
- Interpret and utilize electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, loop drawings, control narratives, instrument indexes, P&IDs, and technical documentation to identify and resolve system issues.
- Support industrial communication protocols including Modbus, Ethernet/IP, OPC, HART, Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus, and TCP/IP networks.
- Perform control system hardware replacement, upgrades, migrations, firmware updates, and system validation activities.
- Collaborate with customers, project managers, operations personnel, contractors, and engineering teams to execute field service activities and resolve complex technical issues.
- Identify process control performance issues and recommend corrective actions, optimization opportunities, and reliability improvements.
- Provide technical guidance and training to customers and site personnel regarding instrumentation and control systems operation and maintenance.
- Complete detailed service reports, calibration records, commissioning documentation, troubleshooting reports, and customer deliverables.
- Ensure compliance with Honeywell safety procedures, customer site requirements, quality standards, and applicable industry regulations.
- Must be able to travel 75-95% of the time to customer locations
YOU MUST HAVE
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in field service, instrumentation, automation, process controls, industrial maintenance, or a related technical field.
- Strong working knowledge of process instrumentation, including pressure transmitters, temperature sensors, flowmeters, level instruments, control valves, analyzers, and associated field devices.
- Experience with PLC, DCS, HMI, and SCADA systems in industrial process environments.
- Experience troubleshooting electrical, instrumentation, automation, controls, and industrial communication systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, loop drawings, cause-and-effect diagrams, P&IDs, and technical documentation.
- Experience performing system startup, commissioning, calibration, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting activities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to independently resolve complex technical issues in the field.
- Strong customer communication, interpersonal, and technical documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple customer service priorities.
- Must be able to travel 75-95% of the time.
- Must be able to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening and background check, in accordance with company policy and applicable laws.
WE VALUE
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, Automation, Process Control, or a related technical field.
- Experience supporting Honeywell, Experion, Allen-Bradley, Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider Electric, Emerson, Yokogawa, ABB, or similar automation platforms.
- Experience with DCS, PLC, SCADA, HMI, SIS, and process control systems.
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols including Modbus, Ethernet/IP, Profinet, OPC, HART, Foundation Fieldbus, and Profibus.
