Location: City of Albany

  • Provide technical and strategic leadership across Collins Aerospace and RTX in Materials Engineering
  • Lead strategic technology roadmaps and advance materials engineering capabilities
  • Transition disruptive technologies and early-stage research into operational and production environments
  • Collaborate with senior leadership, stakeholders, subject matter experts, cross-functional leaders, and executive leaders
  • Identify strategic customer and business initiatives, improvement opportunities, and projects
  • Develop new approaches to qualification, design, and automated manufacturing
  • Build and maintain relationships across departments, business units, regulatory bodies, customers, universities, and government stakeholders
  • Present to internal and external audiences and lead proposal and white paper activities
  • Represent Collins Aerospace at technical conferences, working groups, standards committees, and external technical communities
  • Promote development projects and align them with customer, program, business, and engineering objectives
  • Provide enterprise-level mentorship and technical leadership across engineering disciplines
  • Support TRL/MRL reviews, PDRs, and CDRs
  • Lead strategic plans advancing product technology and organizational capability
  • Identify external technology disruptors and evaluate strategic applications
  • Travel up to 25% to customers, company sites, conferences, laboratories, and other business locations
Requirements
  • Experience creating and maintaining organizational- or directorate-level strategic technology roadmaps, customer trend analyses, and disruptive technology assessments
  • Expert-level knowledge and mastery across multiple Materials Engineering disciplines
  • Expertise in materials design, qualification, alloy development, coatings, automated synthesis, additive manufacturing, and/or related advanced materials technologies
  • Experience establishing or modifying customer requirements, processes, and procedures
  • Experience advancing new materials capabilities, manufacturing processes, and/or system-level design methodologies
  • Exceptional executive-level communication and influencing skills
  • Technical leadership demonstrated through patents, publications, technical presentations, and engagement with industry and government stakeholders
  • Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 14 years of relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree and minimum 12 years of relevant experience
  • Active and transferable DoD Secret clearance required prior to start date
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Preferred: experience with cost accounting structures and financial systems
  • Preferred: experience with DARPA, Department of Defense, Department of Energy, NASA, or similar government research agencies
  • Preferred: knowledge of machine learning applications for materials engineering and digital engineering workflows
  • Preferred: experience leading, mentoring, and developing technical teams
  • Preferred: active participation in external technical communities, government standards committees, and industry organizations
