Location: City of Albany
Duties Description
Responsible for producing or checking various portions of the annual actuarial valuation, experience studies, and various actuarial liability and cost calculations for fiscal notes. Duties might include such areas as development of funding procedures to match the expanding benefit structure, continuing analyses of the actuarial gains and/or losses of the system's operations, and formulating applications of new actuarial concepts to the existing system.

Non-Competitive Qualifications for appointment under the NYHELPS ProgramA bachelor's degree or higher; AND successful completion of two examinations of the Society of Actuaries; AND three years of actuarial experience in one or more of the following activities:
- Actuarial or statistical work for operating units or management.
- Governmental regulatory actuarial functions.
- Governmental or private pension actuarial functions.
- Performing actuarial computations for reserves, premium rates, and/or policy forms.
Minimum Qualifications
You must be currently reachable on the appropriate eligible list for this title or eligible to transfer under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law.
52.6 TransferTo be eligible for a 52.6 transfer to an Associate Actuary Life SG-24, you must have one year of permanent competitive service in a qualifying title allocated to a salary grade 22 or above; AND a bachelor's degree or higher including or supplemented by 24 semester credit hours in mathematics, statistics, and/or actuarial science; AND successful completion of two examinations of the Society of Actuaries;
AND three years of qualifying actuarial experience.
Preferred Qualifications /Knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Experience or knowledge base for developing optional pension allowances
- Experience reviewing reports, including those that require an actuarial statement of opinion.
- Strong supporting role as a member of a team.
- Strong computational skills, especially when working in Excel.
- Diligence working independently and managing one's own time with multiple priorities
