Director of Student Accounts

The Director of Student Accounts is responsible for the efficient and effective organization and operation of all functions related to tuition and fee billing, collection, deposit, disbursement, and record maintenance. Provide superior service to students, employees, and other customers. Establish policies and procedures to ensure financial resources and operations are utilized prudently and in compliance with pertinent external financial regulations. The Director of Student Accounts will report to the Chief Finance Officer and Senior Vice President of Finance and Administration.

Major

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Responsible for management of staff including supervising, training, recruitment and selection, performance management and other employee related transactions.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate information and reconciling student related account information including but not limited to fees, dates, detail codes, student accounts receivable and allowances, bad debt, collections awaiting distribution and other information required to process accurate student financial transactions.
  • Manages the refund process for financial aid refunds including managing system and refunds from dropped courses.
  • Review and approve correction forms for student accounts and review clerical reconciliations.
  • Responsible for addressing or directing student inquiries and concerns.
  • Oversees the daily computer processes and feeds for student transactions.
  • Manages the third-party charges and authorizations including but not limited to processing of fee waivers, exemptions posting to the student account, submitting payments requests, and communicating to stakeholders.
  • Oversees the process for class enrollment purges to drop students for non-payment to ensure accurate class rolls.
  • Responsible for departmental compliance with all applicable rules, regulations, and policies pertaining to student transactions, depositing of funds, and use of credit card machines; prepares documents and regulatory information for auditors.
  • Assists with year-end financial statement preparation and prepares a variety of monthly, quarterly, annual, and other periodic financial reports.
  • Responsible for the updating and accuracy of Office of Student Accounts information in documents such as the catalog, website, and other printed or online sources.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information and works in accordance with FERPA guidelines on the disclosure of information.
  • Participates in the preparation and issuance of the annual 1098T's tax forms.
  • Complete Departmental Continuous Improvement Plans for the Office of Student Account functions in line with the College's Strategic Plan, including implementation of online billing/payment system.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles and procedures of financial record keeping and reporting
  • Detail oriented with superior organizational and time management skills, ability to complete multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree with a major in accounting or related business degree. Master's degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting preferred
  • Five (5) years-experience including accounts receivable management, customer service, managing cashiering and online payment systems and accounting
