The State Program Examiner roles with the Office of the State Comptroller conduct performance audits of New York state agencies and authorities to assess management effectiveness, efficiency, and program performance. The incumbent spends 85% of time examining state agency programs and transactions for compliance with laws and regulations, analyzing data, and developing audit findings; the remaining 15% supports special projects. Positions are available at three levels (Trainee 1, Trainee 2, and full performance Examiner
1) based on education and experience, with trainees completing a structured development program before advancement to the full SG-18 role.

• Bachelor's or graduate degree in accounting, business administration, computer science, criminal justice, economics, engineering, finance, mathematics, public administration, public policy, political
• For SG-16 trainee level: one year of professional accounting and/or auditing experience, or master's/doctoral degree in qualifying field
• For SG-18 examiner level: two years of professional accounting and/or auditing experience, or master's/doctoral degree with one year of professional accounting/auditing experience
• Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills with detail orientation and ability to organize and analyze data
• Proficiency with Microsoft applications and computer fundamentals; ability to work in fast-paced environment managing multiple priorities
