Job Description
Environmental Specialist 1/Trainee 1/Trainee 2 position within the Hazard Mitigation Unit of the Office of Disaster Recovery at the NY Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services. The role involves managing mitigation projects, reviewing environmental and historic preservation issues, coordinating with state and federal agencies, conducting outreach, and supporting grant administration for hazard mitigation and climate resilience initiatives. Full-time position based in Latham, NY with potential supervisory duties and emergency deployment requirements.
Keyqualifications:
- Four to six years of environmental analysis experience depending on level (Trainee 1, Trainee 2, or Specialist
1) - Substantial involvement in preparation and review of environmental impact analyses
- Knowledge of state and federal environmental laws, regulations, methods, and procedures
- Associate, bachelor's, or master's degree may substitute for specialized experience
- Valid Driver's License or demonstrated capacity to meet transportation needs
- Ability to support emergency operations and potential field deployments
