The Medical Imaging Technologist, under the direction of the Medical Director and/or Section Head, performs technical procedures and assists in the clinical evaluation and care of patients. The technologist utilizes their specific modality to create diagnostic images and ensure a safe, positive patient experience. In radiation-producing modalities, they practice and enforce radiation safety measures as per New York State Department of Health code part 16.

Technologists support teaching and continuous learning as technology evolves.

• Maintain competent imaging skills in practicing modality/s.
• Assume charge tech responsibility when assigned.
• Precept new MITs and train technologists in modality; complete preceptor course if no experience.
• Foster a professional, progressive, and positive imaging department environment.
• Practice in compliance with hospital/department policies and state/agency standards.
• Assist physicians in procedures within their assigned area.
• Provide a safe, positive experience for patients.
• Take calls if applicable.
• Mentor and precept new staff and students.
• Support accreditation maintenance efforts.
• Enter patient data accurately into computer systems.
• QA images and patient information before sending to PACS.
• Provide patient care appropriate to age and characteristics.
• Obtain peripheral IV access and inject contrast when required.

• High School Diploma/G.E.D. required.
• Graduate of an approved two-year AMA Radiologic Technology School required.
• 4-5 years’ experience required.
• NYS DOH Diagnostic license and/or eligibility upon hire required.
• ARRT registration and advanced certification in modality upon hire required.

• Standing, walking, lifting, carrying, and other physical activities as detailed.
