The Respiratory Therapist participates in patient assessment which includes the pulmonary history, pulmonary pharmacology, complete chest examination, arterial/venous blood gas acquisition/analysis, knowledge of chest roentgenology, pulmonary function testing, patient motivation, and self-care education; elective and/or emergency endotracheal intubation and extubation, cardiopulmonary resuscitation; participation in hospital/respiratory related in-services, patient/family education programs/support groups, respiratory therapy student rotations, nursing education, updates, and community service education programs.
Responsibilities- Gather data to be able to accurately assess a patient’s current health status
- Assessment is made according to a patient’s special physical or age related needs
- Observe, record and report symptoms, reactions and progress of patients
- Administer and record prescribed medications, treatments, and diagnostic procedures (adult and neonatal mechanical ventilation, blood gas acquisition and analysis, monitoring and testing pulmonary function, hemodynamic monitoring, and setup of lines)
- Responsible for airway management including performing endotracheal intubations and extubations, pulmonary hygiene, and tracheostomy care, and emergency life support procedures
- Perform all aspects of Pulmonary Function Testing
- Participates in setting standards for patients care, promotes their implementation and assists in monitoring these standards through the continuous quality improvement program
- Maintains clinical knowledge, evaluates new techniques and equipment
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Associates degree in Respiratory Therapy
- Licensed as a Respiratory Therapist by the New York State Dept. of Education
- Registered by the NBRC
- BLS required
$34.00–$44.00 per hour. Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
