About the Role:
The Medical Receptionist 1 serves as the first point of contact for patients and visitors within a healthcare facility, playing a critical role in ensuring a welcoming and efficient patient experience. This position is responsible for managing patient check-ins, scheduling appointments, and maintaining accurate patient records, thereby supporting the smooth operation of clinical services. The role requires effective communication with patients, healthcare providers, and administrative staff to facilitate seamless coordination of care.
Additionally, the Medical Receptionist 1 handles sensitive patient information with confidentiality and adheres to healthcare regulations and policies. Ultimately, this position contributes to the overall quality of patient care by providing organized, professional, and compassionate front-desk support.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a medical office or healthcare setting preferred but not required.
- Basic proficiency with computer systems and electronic health record (EHR) software.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Certification as a Medical Receptionist or Medical Administrative Assistant.
- Experience with specific EHR platforms such as Epic, Cerner, or Meditech.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare billing processes.
- Bilingual abilities, particularly in Spanish or other commonly spoken languages in the community.
- Training in customer service or patient relations within a healthcare environment.
- Greet and assist patients and visitors promptly and courteously upon arrival.
- Schedule, confirm, and reschedule patient appointments using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Verify patient insurance information and collect co-payments or fees as required.
- Maintain and update patient records accurately, ensuring compliance with privacy regulations such as HIPAA.
- Answer incoming phone calls, respond to inquiries, and direct calls to appropriate medical staff or departments.
- Coordinate patient flow by communicating effectively with clinical staff regarding patient arrivals and delays.
- Manage administrative tasks including filing, faxing, and handling correspondence related to patient care.
- Assist with billing and insurance documentation as needed to support the revenue cycle process.
The Medical Receptionist 1 utilizes strong organizational skills daily to manage appointment schedules and patient records efficiently, ensuring minimal wait times and accurate documentation. Effective communication skills are essential for interacting with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance representatives, facilitating clear and compassionate exchanges.
