The State University of New York (SUNY) invites applications for the position of Health Policy Analyst in the Office of Health and Hospital Affairs. The SUNY System includes 29 state-operated campuses, 30 community colleges and five statutory colleges administered by private institutions of higher education located throughout the State. The System also includes four academic medical centers (Buffalo, Stony Brook, Upstate, and Downstate), three tertiary care hospitals, the College of Optometry, the Long Island Veteran's Home, clinical practices, and other related healthcare facilities.
The Office of Health and Hospital Affairs (OHHA) at SUNY System Administration, facilitates and supports the strategic direction, policy, operations, and advocacy for: SUNY's health care facilities and practices; campus healthcare, mental health and wellness for students; and, healthcare workforce.
The health Policy Analyst provides analytic, research, and policy support on a variety of exciting and impactful projects in the Health and Hospital Affairs portfolio. The ideal candidate will have a balance of strong quantitative skills and dedication to understanding project content areas, ensuring comprehensive analysis and informed decision-making for effective solutions.
The Health Policy Analyst will focus on leveraging SUNY's role to address the critical healthcare workforce shortage through educating a highly trained, diverse, and sustainable healthcare workforce for New York State. Projects include nursing simulation initiatives, implementing healthcare educator incentive programs, pathway and pipeline creation among SUNY health programs, assisting with the ongoing Future of Healthcare Workforce Task Force process, and more.
Responsibilities:
- Provide general analytical support and interpretation.
- Provide quantitative and qualitative analysis for proposals, projects, and program implementation.
- Prepare clear, comprehensive reports and presentations to effectively communicate findings to internal and external stakeholders, and make recommendations.
- Conduct policy and program research and analysis.
- Actively monitor, collate, and interpret national and state healthcare trends.
- Review, understand, summarize and analyze health-related legislation, regulations and other policies issues that impact campus/hospitals/healthcare facilities/clinical practices/healthcare workforce.
- Research and benchmark healthcare workforce programs and models, evaluating program structure, outcomes, and scalability to identify best practices and opportunities.
- Conduct applied data analysis and visualization to support program decisions and evaluate impact.
- Collect, organize, and manage datasets related to projects.
- Compile and critically analyze healthcare data, ensuring accuracy and reliability, to assess outcomes and inform decision making.
- Produce effective visualizations to present data insights clearly and effectively communicate data findings.
- As a Health Policy Analyst, tasks assigned to you may include, but are not limited to:
- Preparing research briefs and summaries on emerging topics, healthcare trends, legislative activities, and projects.
- Assisting in drafting program guidelines, policies, and procedures to support program development and implementation.
- Creating funding allocation models to ensure efficient resource distribution for new initiatives.
- Conducting quantitative and qualitative data analysis to inform decision-making and evaluate project outcomes.
- Reviewing and assessing plans, proposals, and applications submitted for initiatives to ensure alignment with program objectives and guidelines.
- Project managing and coordinating timelines, deliverables, reports and stakeholder communications.
- Monitoring and evaluating ongoing projects to measure effectiveness, identify challenges, and recommend improvements.
- Given the dynamic nature of healthcare and changing office needs, other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred
- 1-2 years of relevant experience preferred
- Proficiency in quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques
- Ability to interpret data and draw meaningful conclusions
- Organizational skills and project management
- Excellent interpersonal skills and problem solving
- Demonstrated experience and interest in Healthcare Workforce is preferred
- Salary is dependent on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, experience, education, training, and certifications. The range for this position is $63,000-$72,000 annually.
