Surgical technologists are allied health professionals who are an integral part of the surgical team, working under a registered nurse (RN) and surgeon to ensure a safe operating room environment, functioning equipment, and patient safety.
Responsibilities- Maintain sterile field.
- Prepare operating rooms and assist with patient positioning.
- Inspect sterile items for contamination before opening, maintaining sterility while scrubbed, and maintaining sterility of instruments and supplies.
- Perform accurate instrument, sponge, and needle counts, following established policies and procedures.
- Anticipate surgeon’s needs and remain vigilant for maintenance of the sterile field.
- Function independently in the scrub role and as a circulator under the supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse.
- May require on-call duties and rotating shifts.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Graduate of a Surgical Technology Program (CST) NYS or LPN (NYS) also acceptable.
- 1 to 3 years of scrubbing experience preferred.
- Familiarity with all specialty services preferred.
