The New York State Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) provides 24‑hour operational support for 4,900+ applications across 53 New York State agencies.
Duties DescriptionUnder the direction of a senior Information Technology Architect (Cloud), the Information Technology Architect 1 (Cloud) will provide senior technical leadership throughout the cloud architecture project lifecycle, including decisions on software tools, platforms, and integration standards for cloud‑management software development.
Responsibilities- Create and organize cloud‑based applications that support NYS agencies’ communication, data storage, security, and networking needs.
- Collaborate with IT security to safeguard cloud data and resolve security issues.
- Optimize cloud applications to maintain security, scalability, and high availability as NY State’s requirements evolve.
- Communicate with NYS agency management and IT team members.
- Report on the efficiency of cloud‑based applications to IT leaders, executives, and agency representatives.
- Troubleshoot application issues and provide timely support to agency networks.
- Offer guidance on infrastructure transfer techniques, including bulk application migrations to the cloud.
- Manage relationships with cloud service providers.
- Ensure appropriate user access levels for NYS agency employees.
- Evaluate performance metrics for all active cloud applications, hardware, and software.
Minimum Qualifications
- Six (6) years of broad IT experience, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of software coding and programming languages.
- Four (4) years of specialized experience designing, executing, and supporting cloud solutions.
- Associate’s degree with 15 semester credits in computer science or a related field substitutes for one year of general IT experience.
- Bachelor’s degree program with at least 15 semester credits in computer science or related field substitutes for one year of general IT experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in any field, with fifteen (15) semester credits in computer science or related field, substitutes for three years of general IT experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in any field substitutes for two (2) years of general IT experience.
- Master’s degree or higher in computer science or related field substitutes for one year of general IT experience.
- Certifications in cloud architecture (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP, IBM).
- Strong technical background in multiple cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) and current computing trends.
- Proficiency in Java, PHP, Python, Ruby, and JavaScript.
- Experience migrating applications and data to the cloud and managing cloud environments.
- Hands‑on experience with cloud monitoring tools such as AWS Cloud Watch and Azure Monitor.
- Knowledge of relational (MySQL, Oracle) and No
SQL (Mongo
DB, Cassandra) databases. - Understanding of cloud architecture patterns and design principles.
- Familiarity with software development and Dev Ops processes.
- Effective written and verbal communication for articulating complex cloud reports.
ITS will not offer permanent employment unless the candidate can provide documentation that they are authorized to work permanently in the United States. ITS does not hire F1 or H1 visa holders for permanent employment nor sponsor non‑immigrant visas for temporary work authorization.
Some positions may require fingerprinting.
Some positions may require up to 25% travel and/or lifting up to 50 lbs. Some positions are pending Civil Service approval; detailed responsibilities will be provided if you are selected for an interview.
If eligible, positions in New York City receive an additional $3,400 downstate adjustment; positions in the Mid‑Hudson receive an additional $1,650 adjustment.
