Information Technology Specialist ; NY HELPs

Overview

Under the direction of an Assistant Director Information Technology Services 1, M-4, within the Chief Technology Office/Shared Platform Service/Shared Services, the Information Technology Specialist 2, SG-18, will be responsible for the administration, implementation, documentation, and support of Google Cloud Infrastructure and related services on the Google Cloud Platform.

• Maintain and troubleshoot Identity and Access Management policies.
• Create/provide cloud resources based on development teams requirements.
• Troubleshoot via cloud logs.
• Perform system monitoring.
• Create system alerts when necessary.
• Assist with new feature rollouts.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Open Competitive: A bachelor's or higher-level degree including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science.
• OR A bachelor's or higher-level degree in any field and one year of experience in information technology.
• OR 60 semester credit hours including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science and one year of professional experience in information technology.
• OR Two years of professional experience in information technology.

Promotion:
Open to NYS employees with one year of permanent competitive service as an Information Technology Specialist 1, Salary Grade (SG) 14.

Transfer:
Open to NYS employees with one year of permanent competitive service as an Information Technology Specialist 2 or Information Technology Specialist 2 Programming, SG-18; OR in a title SG-16 or above deemed administrative under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law.

• Appointment to this position and continued employment with the agency is contingent upon obtaining and/or maintaining New York State residency within six months of hiring.
• Appointment to this position is not final until all agency approvals have been granted.
• This position may require critical services to be performed outside of normal work schedule.

If eligible, positions located in New York City will receive an additional $3,400 downstate adjustment location pay with regular annual salary. Positions located in the Mid-Hudson will receive an additional $1,650 adjustment location pay.

For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At this time, agencies may recruit and hire employees by making temporary appointments. In May 2024, if a temporary NY HELPS employee is satisfactorily performing in the position, the appointment will be changed from temporary pending Civil Service Commission Action to permanent non-competitive and the official probationary period will begin.

At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
