Job Description Project/Program
Specializes in analyzing, designing and implementing information systems. Assesses the suitability of information systems in terms of their intended outcomes and liaises with end users, software vendors and programmers in order to achieve these outcomes.
Day-to-Day TasksDuties include but not limited to the following:
- Process Improvement:
Identifying inefficiencies in current TSMO business processes and recommending improvements, often leveraging technology. - System Analysis:
Understanding TSMO systems, their functionalities, and how they can be enhanced or integrated with new solutions. - Performance Management:
Develop and support performance reporting. - Product Management:
Document what’s needed to build out an approved products list for IT, OT and ITS devices on our transportation network. - Requirements Gathering:
This is a core function. You’ll interview stakeholders (users, managers, clients), facilitate workshops, analyze existing documentation, and use other techniques to uncover and document business needs and system requirements. - Analysis and Documentation:
You’ll analyze the gathered information to identify problems, opportunities, and potential solutions. This involves creating various types of documentation, such as:- Business Requirements Documents (BRDs):
High‑level overview of what the business needs. - Functional Requirements Specifications (FRS):
Detailed descriptions of how the system should behave. - Use Cases:
Scenarios describing how users will interact with the system. - User Stories:
Short, simple descriptions of a feature told from the perspective of the person who desires the new capability. - Process Flows/Diagrams:
Visual representations of current and future business processes. - Data Models:
Diagrams illustrating the structure and relationships of data.
- Business Requirements Documents (BRDs):
- Stakeholder Communication:
You’ll act as a liaison between business users, technical teams (developers, testers), project managers, and other stakeholders, ensuring clear and consistent communication throughout the project lifecycle. - Solution Design and Validation:
You’ll collaborate with technical teams to design solutions that meet the documented requirements. You’ll also validate that the proposed solutions align with business objectives. - Change Management:
You may assist in managing changes to requirements, assessing their impact, and communicating those changes to relevant parties.
Systems Analyst – specializes in analyzing, designing and implementing information systems. Assesses the suitability of information systems in terms of their intended outcomes and liaises with end users, software vendors and programmers in order to achieve these outcomes. Uses analysis and design techniques to solve business problems using information technology. Serves as change agent, who identifies the organizational improvements needed, designs systems to implement those changes and trains and motivates others to use the systems.
Mid‑Level36–60 months:
Candidate is able to work independently, without assistance.
- 48 months experience exciliting functional and non‑functional technical requirements via interviews, surveys, brainstorming, and prototyping to gather and document the requirements including process flows, use case diagrams, data models.
- 48 months experience with Agile frameworks, Business Process Modeling, Data Modeling and Report Modeling.
- 36 months experience with Business Intelligence tools, specifically Tableau and Power BI, including report design and visualization.
- 36 months experience with Structured Query Language (SQL) to write SELECT statements, write complex queries with joins, write optimized queries.
- 24 months experience with Data Warehousing concepts including writing ETL/ELT processes.
- 12 months experience with Data Governance and Quality, and Performance Tuning.
