Position DetailsDuration: 24 months — Full time, 40 hours per week.
OverviewNew York State Information Technology Services (ITS) supports the Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC). We are seeking an Expert Database Administrator to support the Grants & Scholarships project portfolio. This role will supplement the existing database team to deliver Governor‑priority initiatives resulting from the 2024 New York State Budget. The consultant will design and maintain enterprise data architecture, develop logical and physical data models, create database objects and scripts, optimize SQL performance, support data conversion and gap analysis, and collaborate with technical and business teams to ensure reliable, scalable, and high‑quality database solutions for HESC’s Grants and Scholarship program.
Responsibilities- Build and maintain a data architecture based on the requirements.
- Design and develop Logical and Physical Data Models using ER Studio Data Architect; create DDL scripts to establish and maintain necessary database objects.
- Write complex SQL queries against SQL Server and DB2 databases; create DML scripts to manipulate data.
- Work with project managers, solution architects, business analysts, application development teams and QA to ensure the quality of DDL and DML scripts.
- Performance‑tune SQL to improve efficiency.
- Collaborate with NYS Agency representatives to develop gap analysis specifications and understand Agency business rules.
- Provide guidance and hands‑on development for queries in QMF for Workstation.
- Document data models and describe data usage in the application process flow.
- At least 84 months of experience designing and developing logical and physical data models, and creating DDL scripts for tables, views, indexes, triggers, and stored procedures.
- At least 84 months of experience designing and developing Data Conversion Strategy Plans, Data Mapping Documents, and Gap Analysis.
- At least 84 months of experience writing complex DML SQL against enterprise SQL Server and DB2 databases.
- At least 84 months of experience working with tools such as SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), SSMS Job Scheduler, SSIS, SSRS, Export/Import, ER Studio Data Architect, QMF for Workstation, Redgate SQL Compare, and TSO.
- At least 84 months of experience using programming languages such as SQL, PL/SQL.
- At least 60 months of experience performance‑tuning complex SQL against enterprise SQL Server and DB2 databases.
