The NYS Digital Service team at the Office of General Services (OGS) seeks a creative professional to serve as User Experience Designer. The Public Information Specialist 1 (Digital Content) will function as User Experience (UX) Designer to support digital projects across multiple channels including websites, applications, mobile, and email.

The UX Designer will assist with research, design, testing, and analysis to create engaging and informative online interactions for residents, businesses, and visitors. This role will work closely with product leaders, researchers, content producers, data analysts, and developers to bring products to life. Ideal candidates have a passion for improving the experience people have with the government, and a deep knowledge of various user-research methods and creating UX design deliverables.

Everyday Impact at NYS Digital Service:
The NYS Digital Service is a team of strategists, product managers, and technologists working with agencies to streamline and improve the digital experience across New York State. Typical duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Design and optimize a variety of digital products and services to ensure they are accessible, efficient, and user-friendly, by creating UX design deliverables (e.g. sketches, user stories, user flows, interactive prototypes, etc.).
  • Apply user-centered design principles and research insights to translate business needs into seamless interaction flows that drive task completion and enhance user satisfaction.
  • Plan, conduct, and analyze usability testing and other evaluation methods to validate design decisions and continuously improve the user experience.
  • Break down projects into reasonable plans with clear deliverables, milestones, and deadlines.
  • Employ various user research methods and know when to use each most effectively (e.g. user interviews, usability testing, card sorting, etc.).
  • Design intuitive user interfaces using research findings, established design patterns, accessibility standards, and plain language best practices.
  • Follow brand standards and design patterns to create visual design assets.
