AboutThe Executive Chamber is seeking a motivated and experienced professional to serve as the Clemency Programs Coordinator. Serving under the general supervision of the Governor’s Counsel’s office and the direct supervision of the Director of Clemency Programs, the Clemency Programs Coordinator provides essential support to legal staff by managing a range of administrative tasks and assisting with work related to criminal justice and human services.
This role requires exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and a high degree of professionalism to handle confidential and sensitive information.
To succeed in this role, you must be highly organized, able to compile and interpret information and data, and have proficiency in using spreadsheets. You must be a strong reader and writer. You must also possess excellent time management skills.
If NYC-based, regular travel to Albany is required.
Duties- Organizes and maintains legal paperwork, files, exhibits, and other important information for their assigned Principals.
- Composes legal reports for Counsels regarding various aspects of a case or other assignment.
- Supports Counsel’s office in the documentation of processes with contractual or legislative obligations by developing and maintaining legal templates, documents, and other procedures.
- Helps Counsels prepare motions, legal arguments, and research.
- Conducts various types of research related to laws, legal articles, and other information relevant to a case or assignment.
- Conducts informational interviews and preparing documentation of the interview for Counsel review.
- Drafts various legal documents including pleadings, deposition notices, and legal briefs.
- Assists Counsels with all administrative aspects of research or other investigations, filing case reports, drafting of letters and documents, proofreading, and reference checking.
- Conducts requested investigative inquiries, including, but not limited to searching internal records and databases, verifying facts, and collecting additional information from relevant parties, as appropriate.
- Works closely with Chamber administrative and computer services staff to locate sensitive case materials.
- Prepares drafts of written correspondence such as letters or E-mails relating to attorney investigations and cases.
- Prepares schedules and spreadsheets of case-related documents and records.
- Prepares written and oral analytical reports and briefings, as needed, for Counsel staff and leadership.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Governor’s Counsel’s office and the Director of Clemency Programs.
- At least six years of relevant experience in a legal office setting. Preferred skills will include familiarity with Westlaw and Lexis Nexis.
- The ideal candidate will also be familiar with navigating the US Court’s Public Access to Court Electronic Records (PACER) system as well as the NYS Court Systems searches.
- A relevant associate's degree may substitute for two years of the required experience. A bachelor's degree may substitute for up to four years of the required experience.
