Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and serving as a key member of the executive leadership team, the Chief Financial Officer provides strategic leadership for all financial operations of the organization. The CFO oversees budgeting, financial planning and analysis, accounting, treasury, compliance, audit, financial reporting, and revenue optimization while supporting long-term organizational growth and sustainability.

The CFO partners closely with executive leadership, the Board of Directors, program leaders, and external stakeholders to ensure strong fiscal stewardship, informed decision-making, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities Strategic Financial Leadership
  • Develop and execute financial strategies that support the organization's mission and long-term strategic goals.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO, executive leadership team, and Board of Directors on all financial matters.
  • Lead long-range financial planning, forecasting, and scenario analysis.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial performance while supporting programmatic growth and innovation.
  • Direct all accounting operations, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and financial policies that promote accountability and transparency.
  • Monitor organizational financial performance and recommend corrective actions as needed.
Compliance & Risk Management
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, grant requirements, and nonprofit accounting standards.
  • Lead annual audits and manage relationships with external auditors, financial institutions, and regulatory agencies.
  • Oversee tax filings, financial reporting obligations, and organizational compliance activities.
  • Assess financial risk and implement strategies to safeguard organizational assets.
Operational Partnership
  • Collaborate with operational and program leaders to develop financially sustainable initiatives.
  • Provide financial analysis that supports strategic investments and organizational decision-making.
  • Partner with leadership on contract management, funding opportunities, reimbursement strategies, and resource allocation.
Leadership
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and service excellence.
  • Build strong partnerships across departments to support organizational success.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, including executive-level responsibility.
  • Significant nonprofit financial management experience required, preferably within human services, behavioral health, healthcare, child welfare, or related mission-driven organizations.
  • Experience overseeing complex budgets supported by government funding, grants, contracts, and multiple revenue streams.
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles (GAAP), financial reporting, audit practices, and regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience presenting financial information to executive leadership and governing boards.
  • Proven success leading organizational change and developing high-performing finance teams.
