After more than a decade of stable executive leadership, Habitat enters this transition from a position of strength. The organization has built 185 homes for first-time home buyers and earned a reputation as a regional leader in sustainable affordable housing.

Working alongside an engaged Board of Directors and a dedicated staff, the next Executive Director will have the opportunity to build upon this strong foundation while helping the organization grow its impact in an increasingly complex affordable housing landscape.

If you are energized by collaborative leadership, community partnerships and expanding access to affordable home ownership, we invite you to consider joining our team.

About Habitat for Humanity Capital District

Habitat for Humanity Capital District partners with families and communities to create affordable home ownership opportunities throughout Albany, Rensselaer and southern Saratoga Counties.

We believe everyone deserves a safe, stable place to call home. Through innovative housing development, neighborhood investment, volunteer engagement, and partnerships with public, private and nonprofit organizations, we work to strengthen communities and expand opportunity.

Today's Habitat is more than a home builder. We are an experienced affordable housing developer managing multiple projects, public funding partnerships and community collaborations that create lasting neighborhood impact.

  • Advance innovative affordable housing initiatives, including sustainable and energy-efficient construction.
  • Strengthen partnerships with municipalities, state agencies, lenders, foundations, businesses and community organizations.
  • Shape the organization's long-term strategy while expanding access to affordable home ownership.

Success in this role requires balancing vision with execution—thinking strategically while remaining grounded in the day-to-day realities of leading a complex nonprofit organization.

Key responsibilities

The Executive Director provides leadership across strategy, people, finances, partnerships, and housing impact.

Primary areas of leadership include:

  • Organizational strategy and Board partnership.
  • Staff leadership, operations, and organizational culture.
  • Financial stewardship, compliance, and risk management.
  • Resource development, community partnerships, and external relations.
  • Affordable housing development, homeowner services, and community impact.
