Hope 7 Community Center (aka East Side Neighborhood Rec Ctr Inc), a 501(c)3 charitable not-for-profit, has served the East Side of Troy and Wynantskill for nearly 60 years, helping our neighbors reach and maintain economic security. Our services include after-school and summer care and enrichment for school-aged children, a year-round food pantry open weekday mornings, Thursday evenings and one Saturday a month.
We seek a food pantry coordinator to work on average 15-20 hours per week January through September, increasing to 20-30 hours per week at times from October through December as we ramp up for the holidays. This is a perfect position for anyone seeking a rewarding part-time job, but especially a retiree, a master's or doctoral student, or a parent looking for a place to work while children are in school.
Hope 7’s food pantry coordinator oversees day-to-day operation of the food pantry located on the lower level of Pawling Avenue United Methodist Church on Troy’s East Side (a block from the community center), ensuring neighbors in need are served in a welcoming, respectful and organized manner. The coordinator works alongside and leads a robust corps of dedicated, fun and active volunteers, and nurtures relationships with amazing corporate donors who keep our shelves stocked and the lights on.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
- Manage communication in pantry email and phone, responding to messages directly or referring them to staff or volunteers for follow-up.
- Coordinate volunteers
, including responding to inquiries, maintaining volunteer records, ensuring proper training and recognition, and working with the volunteer corps to ensure coverage adequate to maintain stock and services. - Work alongside volunteers to assist pantry clients with the intake and food distribution process while maintaining confidentiality and treating all individuals with dignity and respect.
- Maintain records
, entering new clients into tracking software, and establishing procedures to ensure contact information and service records remain current. - Manage inventory by tracking stock, placing orders and scheduling delivery/pick-up for available food and products from the Northeastern NY Regional Foodbank, grocery stores, Capital Roots, Food Pantries for the Capital District and other sources, maintaining inventory records and organizing stock.
- Stay informed of food recalls and promptly identify and remove any recalled products from pantry inventory.
- Produce monthly reports
, compiling and maintain pantry statistics. - Establish procedures for and manage the Thanksgiving
Assistance Program enrolling households, accessing necessary supplies, managing volunteers, and coordinating distribution to participating families. - Coordinate the annual December Holidays Adopt-a-Family Program by signing up eligible families, outreach to individual and corporate donors, and coordinating volunteers for distribution of gifts.
- Maintain standards by ensuring pantry operations and special programs follow applicable program partner, agency, and program guidelines.
This position reports directly to the executive director, works cooperatively with the business manager, and sometimes coordinates with members of the youth programs staff to provide services to client families.
The food pantry coordinator should be able to lift and move boxes weighing 20-30 pounds. An individual with a valid driver's license and vehicle is preferred, but not necessary.
This part-time position provides a great deal of flexibility and autonomy. The hourly rate will be based upon qualifications and experience and is expected to be between $18 and $22/hour.
