Location: City of Albany
Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval - award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
QualificationsApplicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy - English Language Proficiency:
In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) - no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English - Education:
Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the NLNAC at the time the program was completed by the applicant - Exceptions include health care education in the military service or training in the military service which is accepted by the licensing body in the jurisdiction in which the individual is licensed as qualifying for full LPN/LVN licensure or granted a license by a jurisdiction that does not require graduation from an approved school AND have at least one year of successful practice as an LPN/LVN
- Licensure:
Active, full, current and unrestricted licensure as a Graduate LPN/LVN in a State/Territory/Commonwealth or District of Columbia - May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard (applicable to current VHA employees in this occupation)
- Grade Determinations: GS-3 and above with progression to GS-6 per the detailed criteria listed
- GS-4:
Eligible with six months of qualifying experience as an LPN/LVN, or approved school graduation with related experience, or a 24-month duration program - GS-5:
Completion of at least 1 year at GS-4 level or equivalent with demonstrated nursing care capability - GS-6:
At least one year of additional qualifying experience at GS-5 level and ability to provide care, supervise, educate, and perform procedures as described in the qualification standard - Additional duties include: patient education, precepting, and maintaining safe and effective nursing care aligned with standards and policies

- The full performance level is GS-6. The actual grade may range from GS-3 to GS-6 depending on experience and qualifications. Physical requirements include visual acuity, hearing, speech, and manual dexterity; job involves long periods of standing/walking, lifting, and possible exposure to infectious materials.
- The LPN serves as a responsible member of the Primary Care Clinic in the Nursing Service, providing care to a diverse patient population.
- Performs assigned duties and responsibilities involving nonstandard and specialized activities, requiring broad work experience and skill to resolve problems.
- Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care by interviewing patients; collaborates with RNs/Providers to develop individualized plans; contributes to the interdisciplinary team in care planning and evaluation; updates on changes in patient condition, lab results, and responses to treatment.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skill in supporting complex diagnostic tests or procedures, including preparation, assistance, handling of instruments, and monitoring before/during/after procedures.
- Provides patient and family education on medications, disease processes, and treatment regimens; serves as a preceptor to less experienced staff; seeks ongoing educational opportunities to enhance nursing knowledge and practice.
- Ensures safety, privacy, and respectful care in all interactions; recognizes emergencies and initiates appropriate interventions as directed.
- Maintains ability to document accurately, report changes, and communicate with the care team; supports discharge planning objectives and collaborates with other services as needed.
- Work Schedule:
Full time, Monday-Friday, Day shift with potential for evenings and weekends. - Recruitment Incentive:
