Job Title:

Registered Nurse – Neuro-Progressive/Stepdown

Location: Albany, NY
Shift: Night Shift | 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
Unit: Neuro-Progressive / Stepdown

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for the Neuro-Progressive/Stepdown unit in Albany, NY. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical expertise in neuro and critical care settings and the ability to manage complex neurological patients in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.

Mandatory Requirements
  • Minimum experience in Neuro-Progressive/Stepdown or ICU (required)

  • Epic EMR experience – Required

  • Completion of a Neuro-Progressive competency exam upon offer

  • Local candidates are not accepted (effective 01/11/2024; refer to ineligible counties list)

  • Must be willing to work night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)

  • Navy blue scrubs required

Required Skills & Competencies

Strong neuro assessment and critical thinking skills

Experience with stroke, seizures, traumatic brain injury (TBI), and post-neurosurgical patients

Cardiac monitoring and telemetry experience

Ability to manage high-acuity patients in stepdown or ICU settings

Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Time management and prioritization in high-pressure environments

Key Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive nursing care to neuro and stepdown patients with complex medical conditions.

Perform detailed neurological assessments and continuous monitoring of patient status.

Manage patients requiring cardiac monitoring, IV medications, and advanced interventions.

Recognize and respond promptly to neurological and medical emergencies.

Collaborate with neurologists, intensivists, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality patient care.

Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and hospital protocols.

Utilize Epic EMR for accurate documentation of assessments, interventions, and outcomes.

Educate patients and families on neurological conditions, treatment plans, and recovery processes.

Maintain compliance with patient safety, infection control, and regulatory standards.
