Location: City of Albany
Mission Hires is partnering with a respected, mission-driven nonprofit nursing home in Schenectady County, NY to hire an experienced Director of Nursing (DON). The DON will lead all nursing services for a 250+ resident facility, ensuring high-quality clinical care, regulatory compliance, staffing and retention, budget stewardship, and continuous quality improvement. This executive leader reports to the Administrator and serves on the leadership team shaping policy, driving operational excellence, and advancing resident-centered outcomes.
Responsibilities- Oversee and coordinate all nursing services in compliance with federal and New York State regulations
- Define, implement, and maintain high standards of nursing practice aligned with accepted standards of care
- Supervise nursing staff and related departments: nursing office secretary, health information coordinator, ward clerks, medical records, admissions, MDS, quality assurance, and CNA training program personnel
- Lead staffing performance, retention strategies, scheduling, and workforce planning
- Develop, manage, and monitor the nursing department budget to ensure responsible financial stewardship
- Assess quality of care and lead quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) initiatives
- Oversee MDS processes, infection control programs, nursing rehabilitation, and staff education systems
- Coordinate services with laboratory, pharmacy, dental, podiatry, eye care, community medical providers, and nursing agencies
- Lead NYSDOH survey preparedness and develop/execute plans of correction as required
- Participate in accident and incident review processes and collaborate with Social Services regarding admissions and resident concerns
- Serve on the leadership team contributing to policy formation and strategic decision-making
- Report regularly to the Administrator on nursing department performance, key issues, and outcomes
- Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- 2+ years of nursing management experience in a long-term care setting
- Proven knowledge of long-term care financial management and budget oversight
- Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and interpersonal management skills
- Experience with infection control, quality assurance and performance improvement, staffing, and regulatory compliance
- Ability to analyze complex clinical and operational information and lead system-wide improvements
- Strong collaboration skills with interdisciplinary teams and external providers
- Competitive base salary: $120-150k, negotiable based on your experience
